When we first became homeowners we were out of our league.

It felt like everyone had mastered the art of owning a house and we were completely lost. 

Overflowing laundry baskets, multiple take-out nights because we would forget to grocery shop, and let’s not forget the time that the bank called about the account being overdrawn.

If there was a list of mistakes you could make as a new homeowner we made all of them.

Foolishly we didn’t ask for help. We just didn’t think to ask anyone how they managed to do it.

So we set out to figure this homeownership thing by ourselves.

We started to cobble together the things that worked. A checklist here, a cleaning system there.

An easy-to-use budget with some planning. Suddenly we were adulting like we knew what we were doing.

Over time things got easier. Now we’re sharing all the good stuff with you!

This is the easy-to-use budgeting system that we started out with, and it changed our lives.

There’s no complex software that you will never use and feeling like a failure. This system is based on reality and is incredibly simple. In fact, if you can write an email you can use this. Don’t get me wrong.

We’re two personal finance geeks (Cat recently published her first book), so we love good budgeting software, but the rest of the world doesn’t. 

So we made the 5 Minute Budget. It can be done in 5 minutes a day once it’s set up, so you aren’t spending your nights figure things out.

How’s that for beating overwhelm!

And it can be done with a pencil and paper, or in a Google Sheet if you prefer.

Instead, we focus on the three big ones, and then you can layer on more habits as needed

We give you a checklist for every single room in your house (even your garage and basement if you have those.)

The checklists are unique because they are broken into daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks. 

You never have to worry about remembering maintenance. 

We have it all on the sheet for you. You can print these out as many times as you like. 

They are yours to keep and re-use as many times as you need to.
